Lagos Life beginner guide: make your first day count
For Lagos Life beginners, a Mushin LAPO start has ₦76,000 before spending and a ₦12,000 loan repayment to plan for. Nepo starts with ₦500,000 and different rent support; the birth lottery assigns the background.

Lagos Life beginner guide: your first actions
- For your first session, read the assigned background: LAPO debt starts at ₦72,000; Nepo’s Daddy normally covers rent unless Daddy debt is active.
- Use the starter mattress for Energy, bucket for Hygiene and toilet for Bladder. The stove cooks Jollof when the pantry has rice, Gino, Maggi and oil.
- Open Phone → Jobs / Career. A Nepo start can already include a job; other Sims can apply for a local career without buying work furniture.
- On a rostered workday, use Go to work from 06:00 to before 22:00. Finish the shift rather than travelling to the workplace and waiting.
- Use the completed receipt to plan one next unlock: Charisma equipment starts at ₦1,700, Fitness at ₦3,400 and Coding at ₦18,000.

Nepo Baby or LAPO Baby: understand your start
The birth lottery assigns your background; Nepo and LAPO are not freely selectable difficulty buttons. Read the result and then check the actual wallet. A home’s starting cash and the background’s cash effect are separate parts of an ordinary new start.

A Mushin LAPO start combines ₦16,000 from the home with the ₦60,000 loan, giving ₦76,000 before spending. Nepo’s ₦500,000 replaces ordinary home starting cash. Do not add either background payment again after reading your wallet.
A UNILAG fresher follows student terms: no LAPO loan, the first session paid, and a ₦3,000 Monday allowance. Use the UNILAG guide for student fees rather than copying an ordinary LAPO budget.
Use your starter furniture before buying upgrades
The Mushin layout includes a Foam Mattress, Transistor Radio, Kerosene Stove, cooler, Water Drum, chair, bucket and toilet. Open the mattress for sleep, the bucket for washing and the toilet for Bladder. The radio offers entertainment and Dance to Burna; dancing also spends Energy, so it is a poor first choice when Energy is already low.
Cook Jollof needs rice, Gino, Maggi and oil. Check the cupboard before starting: owning a stove does not supply missing ingredients. A powered object can have electricity conditions, while your basic room equipment can still offer useful alternatives. Check the action that appears rather than buying a second object with the same function.
A ₦76,000 start: how much can you spend?
Suppose your Mushin LAPO wallet is still ₦76,000 and your chosen planning period includes one ₦2,400 rent payment and one ₦12,000 LAPO repayment. Reserving those ₦14,400 leaves ₦61,600 before meals, transport and other costs. Setting money aside does not itself reduce the displayed balance.
A ₦18,000 Laptop Desk purchase would bring the actual wallet to ₦58,000. With the same unpaid-bill reserve, that leaves ₦43,600 for the rest of the plan. If a bill has already been deducted, remove it from the unpaid reserve. The loan is already inside the ₦76,000 opening cash; counting another ₦60,000 as future income would overstate what you can spend.
Use your real balance when you try this example. Nepo, another home, a fresher start or previous purchases produce a different starting point.
Find a job and finish your first Lagos Life shift
Choose a Lagos Life career in your current city and check its entry skill requirement. Promotion thresholds belong to later levels, so they should not stop you applying for a career with a lower entry gate. A Refining track can have its own requirement. Check the available job in the phone before spending on a journey.
On a rostered workday, the work control accepts a start from 06:00 to before 22:00 in the workplace’s city. Travelling, jail, serious illness or another active shift can block it. Use Go to work, read the commute quote and follow the work-progress panel. Only one shift is allowed that workday, even if you end it early. See the work guide before comparing a partial receipt with full-shift pay.
What if your first job is not available yet?
Check available nearby earning actions while you meet the career’s requirement. Help at the Buka at Amala Shitta lists ₦1,750 base earnings; Carry Load at Balogun Market lists ₦2,250. They do not require buying a laptop. Availability still depends on opening hours, your state and the action shown by the game.
Compare the fare with the action’s payment before setting off. These activities spend needs as well as time. The money guide explains the trade-offs and later equipment gigs; use a completed receipt before treating the earnings as cash you have.
Watch rent and LAPO repayment in your first week
Ordinary rent is collected on Saturday after 09:00 on the game clock, and arrears can increase what is due. LAPO collections happen at least seven days apart and after 10:00. Read the current notices instead of assuming both charges arrive immediately after character creation.
A missed LAPO collection adds a 10% penalty to the amount due. For a ₦12,000 amount due, that is another ₦1,200. Keeping the next payment available is cheaper than spending the reserve and trying to recover it afterward. Nepo’s rent support normally comes from Daddy, but a Daddy debt notice can make you responsible until that debt is repaid.
Your first upgrade: mirror, dumbbells or laptop?
A Standing Mirror costs ₦1,700 and trains Charisma, the first promotion skill for Banking. A ₦3,400 Dumbbell Rack trains Fitness; Medicine requires Fitness 3 for entry. A ₦18,000 Laptop Desk trains Coding; Tech has no listed entry minimum but needs Coding 1 for Junior Dev and Coding 3 for Senior Dev.
For a LAPO start with Hustle at least 2, the laptop also offers Run Instagram Shop without a separate minimum-level gate. Home Freelance Gig needs Coding 2. Compare those gig payments before spending an extra ₦14,600 on the laptop instead of dumbbells. Housing is a separate commitment: a normal Yaba move costs ₦18,000 upfront and raises weekly base rent from Mushin’s ₦2,400 to ₦6,000.
